Importance of Back links in SEO
SEO, PR and SERP are some of the terms that you will commonly come across nowadays. All these are terms that are aimed at improving the presence of a web page on the internet. When you first enter the internet with a website, your website is like a needle in a haystack.
SEO or search engine optimization is a set of tools that optimize the website so that it performs better in search engine results.
Back links are an important part of the set of tools.
What are back links?
Back links are links from other websites that are directed towards your website. These are also called as Inbound Links.
More the number of back links a website has, the better its importance is and the better page rank it will have.
But remember that the quality of the back links is as important as the quality. So when you are putting a back link, put it on quality websites.
Defining Quality
The website where you place a back link needs to have content that is relevant to the content on your website.
For example, if your website is about chocolates and you place a back link on a website that has content about wine, then that would not be very realistic. If you receive three back links from other websites that are about chocolate, then those links are considered to be more relevant and will fetch you a better page rank.
However, off late there has been a surge in webmasters who are trying to achieve a higher page rank by hook or by crook. Link farms are a prime example of this. If you link your website to a link farm, there are chances that it can get you banned permanently from search results. Hence the criterion for judging the back link has become all the more stringent.
